An officially licensed cordless microphone that transmits through any home stereo, released in 1984.
This was one of two very first Michael Jackson items I received that started the Michael Jackson collection. You can see a picture of me singing through this microphone as a child here.
While the item shown in the picture here is not the exact microphone I was gifted in 1984, it is the same model which I later purchased as an adult for collecting purposes.
This Sing-A-Long Sound Machine by LJN Toys is a portable amplifier featuring a wired microphone, volume control, and carry handle.
My cousin texted me a link to a video of a YouTuber shopping at a local vintage toy store. In that video, my cousin spotted a Michael Jackson item, but because the video only showed a small portion of the box, we had trouble distinguishing what it was exactly. Through research, I was able to identify the item and its estimated value. I contacted the store to ask a few questions, including its price. I wouldn’t have been able to get to the store to make the purchase until the weekend, which was at that time 3 or 4 days away. After I told my mom about it, she offered to pick it up for me since she would be nearby. And it’s a good thing too, because when she was at the store, the owner told her they had had a lot of inquiries about it. So, who knows if it would have still been available by the time I got there.
Prior to discovering what the item was in the video my cousin sent, I don’t recall ever seeing one before. So, I would consider this a relatively rare item. From my research, it was determined to be valued at a minimum of $250, but I paid $150. And considering this Sing-A-Long Sound Machine is new and still in the box, makes me quite elated.
A 3D Viewer and all 3 Michael Jackson's Thriller reels packaged in a colorful gift box.
This was one of two very first Michael Jackson items I received that started the Michael Jackson collection, but of the two, this Gift Set was my favorite. As an added bonus, it also sparked my interest in 3D. Another thing I like about this 3D View Master is it includes a couple still-frames not shown in the Thriller short film.
All 3 loose reels of Michael Jackson's Thriller.
A specially packaged set that includes the 3D Talking View Master machine and all 3 Michael Jackson's Thriller Talking 3D View Master cartridges.
